Dear new teacher:

Science of Reading: A guide for new teachers

Welcome to the classroom! Those of us who鈥檝e been teaching for a few years鈥攁nd who鈥檝e spent some time thinking through how to teach the Science of Reading鈥攁re so glad to have you with us on this journey to help all our students become strong readers, writers, and thinkers. It鈥檚 hard work, and at times it can seem never-ending鈥攂ut I don鈥檛 know of any work that鈥檚 more worth doing.

You鈥檙e managing so much as you step into the classroom: getting to know all your students, finding out what they bring to their learning every day, guiding them toward success in literacy, math, and all their knowledge building. And for that reason, I鈥檓 especially excited to be part of your introduction to the Science of Reading鈥攁 body of research that鈥檚 instrumental in helping you understand how best to teach reading, how to help your students understand the complex ways their brains work, and how your students are developing every day as learners. We hope Science of Reading: A New Teacher鈥檚 Guide will be a help during your first year in the classroom.

Let us know how you鈥檙e doing! We鈥檇 love to help.
